John Paul Pitts, Tyler Schwarz, Thomas Fekete and Brian Black are all skate punks in their early-twenties and residents of West Palm Beach, Florida. After only six months together as a band, the four took up temporary residence in John Paul’s Boca Raton flat at Florida Atlantic University and laid down ten songs on Chinese microphones and a D.I.Y Pro Tools rig. The result was ‘Astro Coast’, their debut full length album, a collection of catchy, summery indie songs that even the most hook-laden power pop band would rightfully be jealous of!

The band began in high school when drummer Tyler and singer/guitarist John Paul started jamming together (despite not getting along very well in classrooms, they tell us). After a chance meeting with Brian and Thomas at a music festival after-party in Miami Beach, Surfer Blood was formed. Once you’ve heard the thumping, anthemic indie surf-pop of Floating Vibes, the bubbly Afro beat percussion of Take It Easy, the re-verb heavy Swim (To Reach The End) and the 90s indie stylings of Twin Peaks and you will be hooked. Surfer Blood aren’t shy of genre hopping, melding their nostalgia of classic rock together with their love of 90s indie and more contemporary experimentation with new electronic sounds in pop and guitar-based production.

Spunk releases ‘Astro Coast’ this January. This band is definitely one to watch in early 2010!
