Bonnie Prince Billy is the name under which Will Oldham has recorded a new set of music, including his sixth full length 'I See A Darkness', on Palace Records. this record marks Oldham's amicable departure from the legendary Drag City label, and the first release for Spunk in Australia and New Zealand.

'I see A Darkness' was recorded in the summer in the country.

The stellar line-up includes Colin Gagon (who has played with Smog) and Bob Arellano, who both played on Oldham's 'Joya': Paul oldham and (Speed to Roam's) Peter Townsend who played on Palace's 'Lost Blues'; and David pajo (ex-Tortoise/Slint) who played on all of the above. manning the production helm was Paul Oldham.

Lauded as 'one of the strongest lyricists working today, scrapping away at the dark corners of sexuality and motivation with sometimes shocking honesty' (The Indepedent, UK), Oldham has forever eluded the trappings of linear progression, as much manifested in the changing nomenclature as in each recording's defiance of its predecessor. Past offerings range from the most sparse Appalachian acoustic to erotic electric country blues to poetic drum machine and guitar primitivism. And although no Will Oldham/Palace/Bonnie Prince Billy record sounds quite like another, they all share a fundamental strength in songwriting and expression, and a voice with the ability to tear you limb from limb with its emotion and intimacy

'I See A Darkness' contains all and none of the above, building as it tears down, pitching us into our own swarthy blackness.
