Biography

Nashville’s Caitlin Rose tells stories of an evolving country. She speaks with American twang and loaded “I’m-a-gonnas” about another generation of American alcoholics falling in love at backyard weddings.  Produced by Mark Nevers (Lambchop, Will Oldham & Andrew Bird) at the Beech House in Nashville, her debut record Own Side Now slinkily slides between classic pop numbers like ‘Spare Me’ to the pedal steel fuelled absorption of ‘Things Change’. Fans of Patsy Cline and Gillian Welch take heed: an adventurous collection of country pop and string soaked ballads, the record was released in the UK to top marks everywhere, from Uncut to The Sun and the NME.

Though steeped in the country tradition, Rose’s music is not constrained by that heritage: her confessional style and wry observations place her very much in the 21st Century, but it’s her heart rending honesty, lyrical prowess and dexterous delivery that define her style. Live, she is another experience altogether: witty and deft, The Guardian recently scored her performance at London’s Slaughtered Lamb with 4/5, recalling her a “rare and prodigious talent”; not to mention her last minute promotion to the headline slot on the UK’s End of the Road festival to replace the flat-on-back Steve Mason.

Having played across the US with the likes of Bill Callahan, Akron/Family and Phosphorescent, we’re thrilled to welcome the incredible young musician to the Spunk family and expect to see her visiting Australia for the first time in early 2011.
