Biography
Don’t let your ears deceive you, don’t let your fears receive you…this is not a threat or an orange alert, neither a percoset nor a Cert. These are just the plain facts as we know them to be…Take them as you wish or cast them out to sea…
Enon is a band from Brooklyn, NY. They used to be a foursome, but are now a solidified three-piece. John Schmersal (guitar, bass, synths, vocals) spent time in a hot-shit band called Brainiac. Toko Yasuda (bass, synths, vocals) has a past with Blonde Redhead and The Lapse. Matt Schulz (drums) used to rock it in The Lab Partners. But that’s really not important now. What IS important is that these three found each other and started making music together.
Some bands are content to develop a “trademark sound”; Enon continuously expands on any and every aspect of their music. Enon manages to bring something new to the table with each release, while still retaining a common thread tying the records together. Enon has returned with Hocus Pocus, an incredibly diverse collection of songs delivering a new take on the twisted pop perfection they mined on 2002′s High Society.
Enon takes influences and chops them up, adds a little spice, makes a fine puree, and serves it to you with a smile. Combining elements of Tom Tom Club, Love, early Cure, and, with a flash of Japanese pop and punk esthetic, Enon sticks them together like some kind of artful mix tape a friend would make you. Bridging gaps. Jumping genres. Blending styles. But let’s not get too scientific about this…Enon is a pop band with a fully loaded clip and a cocked smirk.
Enon has released a staggering number of efforts in the past two years. Aside from the feature lengths, Enon has released an armful of 7″ singles, two instrumental CDs, four or five exclusive compilation tracks, and most recently, a remix and video EP. If Enon’s track record is any indication of what to expect in the future, the band may need to start their own radio station to keep up with the volume of songs they are amassing.
