Spunk is proud to announce the triumphant return of legendary Texas musician Roky Erickson with his first album of new material in fourteen years, ‘True Love Cast Out All Evil’.
Erickson and his band The Thirteenth Floor Elevators were cemented in hearts all over the world with the release of their snarling proto-punk hit Your Gonna Miss Me in 1966. Written by Erickson when he was only 15, this was an impressive debut which saw the band and charismatic Erickson heralded as the forerunners of the garage rock movement and largely credited as one of the first psychedelic bands. The reverberations of The Thirteenth Floor Elevators’ distinctive sound can still be heard today, Erickson’s songs having been interpreted by the likes of R.E.M., ZZ Top, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, Spacemen 3, Julian Cope, Radio Birdman and others.
‘True Love Cast Out All Evil ‘ was produced by Will Sheff and features Sheff’s band Okkervil River backing Erickson, and is being released April 23 on Spunk. Stream the first single Goodbye Sweet Dreams below.
After inviting the Darlins to Australia for the very first time to join them on tour, Wagons and Those Darlins are piling into a bus this May for a string shows along the East Coast of New South Wales and Victoria. This is Wagons last run of headline shows before stepping back into the studio to continue working on the follow up to ‘The Rise And Fall Of Goodtown’. If both band’s unabashed whisky-swilling and rough and ready on-stage antics are anything to go by, they believe that above all else music should be fun. We’ll drink to that!
Every ticket purchased receives free Wagons/Those Darlins Digital E.P. featuring unreleased exclusives and live recorded rarities!
‘In The Sun’ is the first single from the charming duo’s new album. Zooey Deschanel wrote all the music and lyrics and M Ward worked on the arrangements and production elements and the result is a lush and dynamic selection of songs that demonstrate Zooey’s true talent for penning charming and timeless pop songs. This video (directed by Bring It On’s Peyton Reed) is playful and a joy to watch – Zooey dancing around school halls trying to attract the attention of a dismissive and uninterested M Ward. Enjoy!
