Out Now: Youth Lagoon’s ‘The Year of Hibernation’

Youth Lagoon’s debut record, The Year of Hibernation was recorded during the Christmas holidays of Trevor Powers – a 22 year old Boise State student who played every instrument + created every sound on the album. The music has been called nostalgic: read what Powers has to say about that here, and watch the video for album cut ‘Montana’ below. The Year of Hibernation is released today.

Watch EMA’s New Video, For ‘Marked’ September 21st 2011 By brooke

Watch EMA’s New Video, For ‘Marked’

It’s rare for an artist to have such a developed aesthetic on their first album, but EMA has such a great style. ‘Marked’ is taken from her album, Past Life Martyred Saints. We loved her recent tribute to Nirvana. The Financial Times (!) loved her show at London’s Cargo last week. Download her full band Daytrotter session, featuring 5 tracks done live in-studio for free, here.

WATERS – OUT IN THE LIGHT – OUT NOW

Want to hear a brilliant pop album in the vein of Teenage Fanclub or  The Posies. Looks no further than the new album from ex Port O Brien front man Van Perszalowski. Produced by John Congleton (Bill Callahan, St Vincent) “Out In The Light” is a mix of fuzzy, pealing guitars and crashing drums, and easy, alternately soaring and languid, indelible melodies. AA Bondy’s Gorgeous ‘Believers’ – Out Today September 16th 2011 By brooke

AA Bondy’s Gorgeous ‘Believers’ – Out Today

Released today is AA Bondy’s third record, Believers. The album has a real softness to it that is countered with pedal steel guitar and perfect drums – a great mix, which was recorded by Rob Schnapf – the co-producer of  Elliott Smith classic XO. It’s a visual album, with stories of surfer kings and circuses, fires and underworlds, and it’s one of those records that just feels calm. Stream the gorgeous ‘The Heart Is Willing’ below.
