Floodlights debut album “From A View” coming July 17.

Melbourne four-piece Floodlights announce their forthcoming debut album From A View (out July 17) with lead single “Thanks For Understanding.” “Thanks For Understanding is about two lives going in different directions,” says lead singer and songwriter Louis Parsons“It describes the complicated process of growing apart from someone, even though you still care for them.”
Anyone who’s been to a Floodlights show will remember the upbeat and endlessly catchy “Thanks For Understanding” as the track that showcases guitarist and vocalist Ashlee Kehoe‘s wild and masterful harmonica skills.
Following a tour of Australia’s East Coast in October last year, the band began working on the album. The songs were arranged and performed as a band, but often began from Louis or Ash presenting ideas to the group and building on them from there. Though the tracks were written over various points in the bands short career, they come together on From A View with stunning cohesion.
Speaking on the album’s songwriting, Louis says: “The ideas behind the lyrics were often prompted through conversations and interactions that took place in different settings, such as on the job site at work, in everyday life and while travelling around the country and overseas. Often these interactions helped generate perspectives that we’d speak about as a band, and I’d write lyrics about. Some of the key themes in ‘From a View’ revolve around identity, personal cross-roads, and the misuse of power.”
From A View  is the band’s first exploration into proper studio recording with a well-regarded sound engineer. It was recorded in November 2019 over two days onto a 24-track tape machine at Head Gap studios in Preston. The legendary Nao Anzai (Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Cash Savage and the Last Drinks) engineered the album and mixed it over the summer. Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddie Current Suppression Ring) recently added the final touches with mastering.
From A View follows the band’s debut EP Backyard, which was re-released at the tail end of 2019 through a freshly inked deal with Spunk Records and featured singles “Nullarbor” and “Backyard.”
Made up of members Louis Parsons (vocals / guitar), Ashlee Kehoe (guitar / vocals / harmonica), Joe Draffen (bass) and Archie Shannon (drums), Floodlights present a distinctly Australian perspective, with a shambolic, catchy sound that melds 80s alternative rock with 90s New Zealand jangle-pop.
