Debut album from Babitha is out now!

Babitha ‘s Brighter Side Of Blue is out now!

It features the single ‘Only Fair’. ‘Only Fair’ is not too far removed from Babitha’s popular Through the Light EP, with its sultry vocals and country-tinged lead guitar. The production is a little fuller this time around and the lyrical content is a little different.

Babitha’s band leader and singer-songwriter Imogen Grist explains: “Only Fair tells the tale of a twisted love triangle (of sorts) between a fish, a fisherman and a cormorant. The cormorant wants the fish, the fish wants the fisherman, and the fisherman wants to save the fish from the cormorant just so he can catch the fish himself. There’s a lesson in there somewhere, or perhaps it’s just a story about unrequited love”.

Hopefully the song can reveal its true intent over time. Talking intent, for the 12-track album, Babitha and the band entered a 24-track studio for the first time wanting a new experience, and a chance to get together during the peaks of lockdown. Newly opened Stranded Studios in Bellambi offered a joyous respite from the monotony of life in lockdown. It was also the first album ever recorded at the studio. Behind the mixing desk was Bowen Shakallis and Cody Munro Moore and inside the studio were Babitha regulars Alexi Grivas on guitar, Cecil Colemanm (Body Type) on drums and Russell Fitzgibbon (Skeleten) on bass.

‘Only Fair’ was the first track the band laid down, feeling confident after playing the song in every live set. It’s also the perfect song to showcase from the album with its homage to Babitha’s past and future. Speaking of the past, since late 2019, Babitha has gone on to sign a record deal with Spunk!, sold out multiple headline shows, landed playlist rotation on ABC Country, Double J, FBi Radio, 2SER plus college radio across America and received a ‘Next Big Thing’ nomination in the 2021 FBi SMAC Awards.

Babitha recently returned from BIGSOUND and in the past year has opened for Julia Jacklin, Andy Shauf, Maple Glider and appeared at Vivid, Yours and Owls, Country & Inner Western and Riverboats.

You can order the Vinyl for Brighter Side Of Blue from the Babitha Bandcamp page or Spunk! website. Tour dates to follow.
